White Cliffs Underground |
Coastal DefenceNot exactly underground, but they are ex-military and mostly covered with earth (originally). A line of Gun Emplacements, Observation Posts and ancillary buildings was built during the second World War along the cliff tops between Folkestone and St. Margaret's Bay. Some of the heavy ex-naval guns fought 'duels' with the German guns on the cliffs of the Pas de Calais in France. Also included in this section are anti-invasion defences such as pillboxes and anti-tank obstacles.
