Exploration of Ex-military Tunnels, Fortifications and Underground Works in the Folkestone, Dover, and St. Margaret's Area of KentThis area of England, called Hellfire Corner in WW2, is the closest to the Continent and therefore was also thought to be the first part that would be invaded by an enemy. Consequently over the years, in times of tension or war, there have been programmes of fortification and defence which have left this area with an interesting legacy of tunnels, ditches, bunkers, shelters and fortresses cut into the chalk. This site is a result of my fascination with them.
This site is dedicated to my Father John (Jack) Slade who first took me exploring the wartime remains, and later, spent many a weekend exploring and photographing them with me.
Please note if visiting any of these sites, TAKE CARE, by their nature these sites can be dangerous. YOU must use your OWN judgement when exploring! Just because it's possible to gain entrance does not mean it is safe or advisable to do so. Also access to some sites may be on or through private land.
