White Cliffs Underground |
Tunnel, Noah's Ark Rd. DoverThis
tunnel situated above Noah's Ark Road Dover, appears to have been dug
to carry a pipe through the hillside. The tunnel runs for about 50 to
60 yards approx. due south, before being blocked by fallen chalk. There
was an isolation hospital in Noah's Ark Road and the tunnel was running
in that direction, so there may be a connection there. What the pipe carried
or why it was thought necessary to dig a tunnel so near the top of the
hill remain a mystery.
Entrance to tunnel.
Just inside entrance tunnel is concrete lined.
Lined entrance section soon leads into chalk tunnel. Note pipe on floor.
Note niche used for lamp in wall of tunnel.
Collapsed roof prevents intrepid explorer John Vaughan from getting any further along tunnel. John's own website is Dover Underground.
Looking back towards entrance.
